HOW TO AUTHENTICATE LV NEVERFULL BAG

Updated: Apr 19, 2021

The Louis Vuitton Neverfull Tote was first introduced in 2007 has drastically increased in popularity and became an instant classic thanks to its simple design and classically styled and with so many practical uses that you will never want to get rid of your bag. There are four types of materials with regards to the Neverfull bag, including the classic Monogram Canvas, Damier Azur Canvas,  Damier Ebene Canvas, and Epi Leather. While certain fashion industry reports dictate there's a decline in the category of tote handbags for other brands, the Louis Vuitton Neverfull remains popular due to periodic price increases and high demand. Thus, you'll always get a predictable, stable, good return on your investment.

Let’s look at the step-by-step guide to follow when authenticating a Louis Vuitton Neverfull in Damier Ebene Canvas.

Material

The straps of the Neverfull are thin and end in a bulb where they are attached to the bag. There are only 5 stitches on each side of the V.

Strap

The Neverfull is a tote style bag with slim leather straps. Examine the workmanship carefully. All Louis Vuitton bags have precise stitching that is durable and will not show any loose threads. You will not see any sloppy craftsmanship or loose stitching.

Stitch

The stitch line on a Louis Vuitton should be nearly perfect. It should always remain an equal distance from the edge of the handbag at every point, and for the entire length of the stitch. There should be no irregular stitch lengths.

Hardware

Louis Vuitton has well defined and finely embossed logo in the metal works. Louis Vuitton doesn’t use YKK or other branded zippers--the back of authentic Louis Vuitton zippers will be blank. The hardware is highly polished and there shouldn't be any uneven plating, textures or waviness.

Rivets

Rivets should have a rounded (mound) shape with the "Louis Vuitton" or LV embossed. Note that the font may differ from the regular logo font (e.g. the "O" is square, not round).

Interior

On the inside of the authentic Neverfull, the base should be a solid colour, not printed with the strip or the pattern. The Azur has tan while Ebene has red lining. Newer versions may also have yellow and fuchsia lining, depending on the year of production. The interior base should be a solid colour, without stripes or monogram. The interior should have a seamed binding at the base.

Material

The Neverfull is actually a canvas bag, not leather. The only leather on the bag will be the vachetta leather trim and on the Ebene style the leather will have a PPC coating and will never get a patina. For a well used bag the canvas will become more soften slightly while a new Neverfull will be more stiff.

Serial number & Date codes

Most date codes are a combination of letters and numbers. The letters indicated the country in which the item was made while the numbers indicate the month/year of the production date.
